An Act establishing a pilot program to use the shoulder on Interstate 93 for bus travel.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation shall establish a pilot program to use the shoulder on Interstate 93 for bus travel from the City of Boston to the New Hampshire border. The pilot program shall create an interagency project team, including, but not limited to state and federal transit operators and public safety agencies and transit operators and public safety agencies representative of states with similar bus shoulder travel programs. The project team shall recommend strategies to introduce the program to the public and prepare for its implementation. The project team shall monitor the pilot program performance and shall recommend to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation operational changes, as needed. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation shall secure any federal approvals needed to implement this section.
