In the One Hundred and Ninety-First General Court
(2019-2020)

_______________

An Act providing state tax filing relief due to COVID-19.

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to establish forthwith income tax relief for taxpayers of the commonwealth during the state of emergency regarding COVID-19, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public convenience.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Notwithstanding subsection (c) of section 6 or section 11 of chapter 62C of the General Laws or any general or special law to the contrary, Massachusetts state income tax returns may be filed for the 2019 taxable year on or before July 15, 2020, without interest or penalty.
