_______________

An Act relative to ballot nominations for federal elections during the COVID-19 state of emergency.

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to reduce forthwith current signature requirements for candidates for public office in Massachusetts, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public health and convenience.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

Notwithstanding section 6 of chapter 53 of the General Laws or any other general or special law to the contrary, nomination papers shall be signed in the aggregate by not less than the following number of voters: for United States senator, 7,500; for representative in congress, 1,500.

This act shall expire after the 2020 biennial state election.
