By Representatives Robinson of Framingham and Williams of Springfield, a petition (subject to Joint Rule 12) of Maria Duaime Robinson, Bud L. Williams and others for legislation to designate Juneteenth Independence Day as a legal holiday in the Commonwealth.  The Judiciary.

An Act to make Juneteenth Independence Day a state holiday.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Section 1:

Clause eighteen of Section 7 of Chapter 4 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2018 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting "June nineteenth," after "in May,".

Section 2:

Chapter 136 Section 13 is hereby amended by inserting "June nineteenth" after "June seventeenth" in all instances.

Chapter 136 Section 16 is hereby amended by inserting "Juneteenth Independence Day," after "Memorial Day" in all instances.

Section 3:

Section 15BBBBB of Chapter 6 is hereby amended by striking “the Sunday that is closest to”.
