An Act relative to the impersonation of a public safety officer.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 268 of the general laws is hereby amended by striking out section 33, as so appearing in the 2016 Official Edition, and inserting in place thereof the following section: -

Section 33. Whoever falsely assumes or pretends to be a justice of the peace, notary public, sheriff, deputy sheriff, medical examiner, associate medical examiner, constable, police officer, fire fighter, EMS first responder, probation officer, or examiner, investigator or other officer appointed by the registrar of motor vehicles, or inspector, investigator or examiner of the department of public utilities or the department of telecommunications and cable, or investigator or other officer of the alcoholic beverages control commission, or investigator or other official of the bureau of special investigations, or examiner, or investigator or other of the department of revenue, and acts as such, requires a person to aid or assist them in a matter pertaining to the duty of such officer, or knowingly and intentionally obtains money, property or another tangible benefit through such fraudulent representation, shall be punished by a fine of not more than four hundred dollars or by imprisonment for not more than one year.
