An Act requiring pain assessment and management in healthcare facilities.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 70E of chapter 111 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after subsection (o) the following subsection:-
(p) to prompt pain assessment, and if pain is present, to pain management and treatment that respects the patient’s individual needs and to periodic reassessment and modification of the pain management plan, if necessary.
SECTION 2. Said section 70E of said chapter 111, as appearing in the 2016 Official Edition, is hereby further amended by inserting after subsection (h), in lines 137 to 139, inclusive, the following subsection:-
(i) to prompt pain assessment, and if pain is present, to pain management and treatment that respects the patient’s individual needs and to periodic reassessment and modification of the pain management plan, if necessary.
