SECTION 1. There shall be a special commission to study Day Boulevard in the South Boston section of the city of Boston. The commission shall consist of the State Senator from the First Suffolk District, who shall serve as co-chair; the State Representative from the Fourth Suffolk District, who shall serve as co-chair; the Boston City Councilor from District 2, or a designee; the commissioner of the Boston Transportation Department, or a designee; the Secretary of the Department of Transportation, or a designee; the Commission of the Department of Conservation and Recreation, or a designee; the CEO of MassPort, or a designee; the Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, or a designee; the Commissioner of the Boston Police Department, or a designee; the General Manager of the MBTA, or a designee; the Commissioner of DPU, or a designee; 1 resident of South Boston to be appointed by the Mayor of Boston; and 1 owner of a small business in South Boston to be appointed by the Governor.
The Commission shall study and formulate recommendations on the status of Day Boulevard as it relates to the following: speed limits; sidewalks and pedestrian amenities; raised intersections; bus and public transit; signals, signage, and traffic calming measures; multi-modal transit; and ride sharing and commercial usages.
