Honan, Kate Hogan and other members of the General Court for legislation to establish a committee to study an appropriate location for a memorial to LGBT service members and veterans.  Veterans and Federal Affairs.

An Act establishing a committee to study an appropriate location for a memorial to LGBT service members and veterans.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. There shall be a special commission established to investigate and study the history of LGBT service members and veterans in Massachusetts, and to determine an appropriate location for a memorial to their service. The commission shall report its findings, including any proposed legislation, to the house and senate committees on ways and means, the joint committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs and the Department of Capital Asset Management  no later than June 1, 2021.

SECTION 2. The commission shall consist of: 2 members of the senate, 1 of whom shall serve as co-chair appointed by the Senate President, and 1 of whom shall be a member of the minority party appointed by the senate minority leader; 2 members of the house of representatives appointed by the Speaker, 1 of whom shall serve as co-chair, and 1 of whom shall be a member of the minority party appointed by the house minority leader; the house and senate chairs of the joint committee on Veteran and Federal Affairs or their designees; the Secretary of the Department on Veteran Services or a designee ; the commissioner of Veterans Services of the city of Boston or a designee; and 1 member appointed by the Governor, selected from a list of 3 persons nominated by OutVets.
