An Act to promote Massachusetts furniture manufacturers.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 22 of chapter 7 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2016 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following paragraph:-

Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, a contract entered into by an agency of the commonwealth for the procurement of furniture shall be awarded to a furniture manufacturer with a primary place of business in the commonwealth; provided, however, that if such a manufacturer is not available in the commonwealth, the contract may be awarded to a furniture manufacturer outside the commonwealth. For the purposes of this paragraph, “furniture” shall include, but not be limited to: (i) systems furniture; (ii) office furniture; (iii) seating; (iv) school furniture; and (v) library furniture. The secretary may promulgate regulations to implement this paragraph.
