An Act authorizing employees of the city of Fall River the ability to apply with the Fall River Retirement Board to purchase credible service for military service.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. (a) Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, an employee of the city of Fall River who is an active member of the Fall River retirement system on the effective date of this act and is a veteran who served in the armed forces of the United States and who was previously eligible to apply for creditable service pursuant to paragraph (h) of subdivision (1) of section 4 of chapter 32 of the General Laws but failed to do so shall be eligible to apply with the Fall River retirement board to: (i) purchase creditable service for military service time not more than 180 days after the effective date of this act.
(b) The Fall River retirement board and the Division of Human Resources shall provide notice of the provisions of this act to all employees of the city of Fall River.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
