An Act enhancing disclosure of campaign finance activity by expanding the depository reporting system to include legislative candidates.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 18 of chapter 55 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2014 official edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 18-28, clause (a).

SECTION 2. Said section 18 of said chapter 55, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in lines 76-79, the following words: “(1) the same days and in accordance with the same schedule as set forth in clause (a), if the political committee is aiding or promoting the success or defeat of one or more candidates in a state primary, special or general election: (2)”.

SECTION 3. Said section 18 of said chapter 55, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in lines 116-120, the following words in clause (h): “;provided, however, that candidates for the state senate or house of representatives, the nonelected political committees organized on behalf of such candidates, and political action committees, that file with the director, shall also file mid-year reports on or before the twentieth day of July in each odd-numbered year.”

SECTION 4. Said section 18 of said chapter 55, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in line 144, the following words: “clauses (a) and (b)” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- clause (b).

SECTION 5. Said section 18 of said chapter 55, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in lines 150 and 158, the following: “(a)”.

SECTION 6. Section 19 of said chapter 55, as so appearing, is hereby amended by striking out, in lines 1-5, the following words: “Candidates for nomination or election to the offices of governor, lieutenant governor, state secretary, attorney general, state treasurer and receiver general, state auditor, governor’s council, district attorney, clerk of court, register of probate, registrar of deeds, county commissioner, county treasurer and sheriff,” and inserting in place thereof the following words:- Candidates for state or county office, candidates for.
