An Act relative to athletic training.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 23A of chapter 112 of the General Laws is hereby amended by striking out the definitions of "Athletic Trainer" and "Athletic Training" and inserting in place thereof the following new definitions: -
“Athletic Trainer”, a person who is duly licensed to practice Athletic Training in the Commonwealth in accordance with section 23B.
“Athletic Training”, the application of principles, methods and procedures of evaluation and treatment of injuries and other medical conditions of the patient consistent with the educational standard and role delineation of the athletic trainer through the use of appropriate preventative, emergent, and rehabilitative care, supportive devices, splinting, bracing, and physical modalities, including but not limited to heat, cold, massage, water, electric stimulation, sound, exercise and exercise equipment in consultation with physicians or dentists duly registered in the Commonwealth. Athletic training includes education and instruction to coaches, athletes, parents, other medical personnel and the community in the area of care and prevention of injuries and other medical conditions.
SECTION 2. The Board of Allied Health Professions must review and update the rules and regulations pursuant to this act within 180 days of the passage of this act.
