An Act relative tracking and tracing illegal guns.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 140 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2018 Official Edition, after SECTION 131 1/2, The purpose of this legislation is to implement a track and trace on all guns sold in Massachusetts.

SECTION 2: There shall be an Illegal Gun Task Force, which will consist of 9 members with 3 year terms each. 1 will be appointment by the Governor, 2 will be appointment by the Massachusetts Black and Latino Caucus, 1 will be appointed by the Speaker of the House, 1 will be appoint by the Senate President, and 3 will come from gateway cities.

SECTION 3: The purpose of the task force will be to pin point where illegal guns are prevalent and where they have the most impact on crime. The task force will be required to provide recommendations that will be considered for legislation by the legislature by the end of the Fiscal Year. The task force will define the difference between illegal and license guns and where it has the most impact in the commonwealth of Massachusetts.

SECTION 4: The Task force will be overseen by the Department of Public Safety and Inspections.
