An Act relative to fire safety.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1.  Section 81 of chapter 146 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2016 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in line 21  the words “and standpipes connected to sprinkler systems”  and inserting in place thereof the following words:- , standpipes connected to sprinkler systems and pumps dedicated for fire protection.

SECTION 2.  Said section 81 of said chapter 146, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by adding the following definition:- 

“Work on a fire protection sprinkler system”,  the onsite layout, on-site fabrication, work and practice concerning the construction, installation, alteration, or extension of a fire protection sprinkler system, modification, repair, removal, and initial acceptance testing and inspection, testing, maintenance and service of a fire protection sprinkler system.

SECTION 3.  Said chapter 146 is hereby further amended by striking out section 84, as so appearing, and inserting in place thereof the following section:-  

Section 84.  No person shall engage in the business of a master pipefitter, or work as a journeyman or apprentice pipefitter or work as a refrigeration technician or work on a fire protection sprinkler system as a fire protection sprinkler system contractor or as a sprinkler fitter or apprentice sprinkler fitter, unless that person is lawfully licensed under section 85 or section 85A.
