An Act relative to establishing parity for educators.

 

 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

 SECTION 1.  Chapter 71B of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 12 the following section:-

 Section 12 ½. (a) An educator responsible for providing education to a school aged child incarcerated in a county house of correction pursuant to section 11A or in an institution under the control of the departments of mental health, developmental services, public health or youth services pursuant to section 12, shall be paid at or above the pay specified in the following pay scale:

 SECTION 2. Notwithstanding sections 10, 11A and 12 of chapter 71B of the General Laws, 603 CMR 28.10 and any other general or special law to the contrary, the difference between the salary owed to an educator covered by section 12 ½ of said chapter 71B on the effective date of this act and the salary owed to that educator resulting from the mandatory pay scale set forth in said section 12 ½ of said chapter 71B of the General Laws shall be borne by the department of elementary and secondary education and the department of youth services and not charged back to any city, town or school district.
