Section 6 of chapter 90F of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2018 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the third sentence, in line 22, the following sentences:-
“The registrar shall administer the tests prescribed under this section in Portuguese and Spanish, if so requested by the applicant, and in any other language the registrar deems necessary, as reasonable accommodation for limited-English speaking applicants for licenses to operate commercial motor vehicles. No test administered pursuant to section 6 shall be used to determine any English language skills required by federal guidelines and a request by an applicant for such reasonable accommodation under this section shall not exempt an applicant from the requirement that the applicant demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency to converse with the general public, understand highway and traffic signs, respond to official inquiries and make reports and records.”.
