An Act relative to an electric transportation future.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1: Section 2 of Chapter 90 of the General Laws of 2018 is hereby amended by adding after the word, “months.” the following paragraph:-

On and after January 1, 2035, the registrar shall not accept an application for original registration for any light-duty vehicle unless that vehicle is an electric vehicle. For the purposes of this section, “light-duty vehicle” means an on-road motor vehicle with a scale weight of up to ten thousand pounds and two or more wheels and “electric vehicle” means a type of vehicle which draws propulsion energy from an on-board electrical energy storage device during operation that can be recharged by plugging the vehicle into an external power source, such as a battery electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, or a type of vehicle which draws propulsion energy from electricity produced using an on-board hydrogen fuel cell, such as a fuel cell electric vehicle.
