An Act relative to annuities for widows and surviving relatives of veterans.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 6B of Chapter 115 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2018 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting, in line 30, the following:- Any applications submitted by an eligible veteran shall be valid until the death of the veteran.

SECTION 2. Section 6B of Chapter 115 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2018 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the word “spouse”, in line 47, the following:- The parents and eligible surviving spouses of veterans shall reapply for said annuity once a calendar year, provided further that during the first year they apply they shall be eligible to receive the annuity compensation that they would have been eligible for the year after the death of the veteran.

SECTION 3. Notwithstanding any special or general law to the contrary, any eligible veterans, parents, or surviving spouses who did not receive an annuity due to failure to apply for said benefits shall retroactively be eligible to apply for 90 days following enactment of this act.
