By Representative Zlotnik of Gardner and Senator Cronin, a joint petition (accompanied by bill, House, No. 3941) of Jonathan D. Zlotnik and John J. Cronin (with the approval of the mayor and city council) that the city of Gardner be authorized to exempt certain positions in the police department from the provisions of civil service law. An Act relative to the exempting certain positions in the city of Gardner from the provisions of civil service.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1.All positions in the City of Gardner Police Department below the rank of Deputy Chief shall be exempt from the provisions of Chapter 31 of the Massachusetts General Laws.
SECTION 2.The provisions of Section 1 shall not impair the civil service status of any person holding a position governed by said Chapter 31 on the effective date of this Act.
SECTION 3.This Act shall take effect upon its passage.
