By Mr. Barrett of North Adams, a petition (subject to Joint Rule 12) of John Barrett, III that a certain bridge spanning the Hoosic River on state Route 2 in the town of North Adams be designated as the William F. Evans memorial bridge.  Transportation.

An Act designating a certain bridge in the city of North Adams as the William F. Evans Memorial Bridge.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Bridge number N-14-016, currently known as the Greylock Bridge, constructed over the Hoosic river on route 2 in North Adams, shall be designated and known as the William F. Evans Memorial Bridge. United States Capitol Police Officer Evans lost his life in the line of duty on April 2, 2021 protecting the U.S. Capitol Building. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain suitable markers on both the east side and west side of the bridge bearing this designation in compliance with the standards of the department. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation shall also place a plaque in an appropriate location on the bridge with the following inscription: On April 2, 2021 United States Capitol Police Officer William "Billy" Evans completed his final watch defending the United States Capitol Building.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
