Section 1. Not withstanding any general or special law to the contrary, if a vacancy in the office of mayor of Boston occurs at any time in the year two thousand and twenty-one, the vacancy shall not be filled by a special municipal election and shall instead be filled according to the provision of Section 13 of Chapter 452 of the Acts of 1948, as appearing in Section 1 of Chapter 376 of the Acts of 1951 and further amended in Chapter 328 of the Acts of 1996, that begins, at line 13, "a mayor shall be elected at large at the next regular municipal election".
Section 2. The provisions of this act shall be effective upon passage.
