An Act relative to expanding paid family and medical leave for the armed forces.

 

Whereas, The deferred operation of this act would tend to defeat its purpose, which is to extend paid family and medical leave for the armed forces, therefore it is hereby declared to be an emergency law, necessary for the immediate preservation of the public safety.
 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 2(a)(1) of Section 29 of Chapter 121 of the Acts of 2018, is hereby amended by inserting at the end of the first sentence, the following words:-

; or (iv) because of any qualifying exigency arising out of the fact that a family member is on active duty or has been notified of an impending call or order to active duty within the United States in the Armed Forces for the purpose of COVID-19 related response or to respond to events that have taken place at the United States capitol

SECTION 2. Section 8(b) of Section 29 of Chapter 121 of the Acts of 2018, is hereby amended by inserting at the end of the first sentence, the following words:-

; or (iv) because of any qualifying exigency arising out of the fact that a family member is on active duty or has been notified of an impending call or order to active duty within the United States in the Armed Forces for the purpose of COVID-19 related response or to respond to events that have taken place at the United States capitol.

SECTION 3.This act shall take effect immediately upon passage.
