SECTION 1. The third paragraph of section 35 of chapter 123 of the General Laws, as amended by sections 2 and 3 of chapter 8 of the acts of 2016, is hereby amended by striking out the first sentence and inserting in place thereof the following sentence:- Any police officer, physician, spouse, blood relative, guardian or court official may petition in writing any district court or any division of the juvenile court department for an order of commitment of a person whom he has reason to believe has an alcohol or substance use disorder; provided, that a person with an alcohol or substance use disorder may petition in writing any district court or any division of the juvenile court department for an order of commitment of themselves.
