An Act relative to the protection of police officers.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Section 15A of Chapter 265 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting at the end the following new subsection:-
(e) Whoever commits assault with a dangerous weapon by discharging a firearm, large capacity weapon, rifle, shotgun, sawed-off shotgun or machine gun, as defined in section 121 of chapter 140, with the intent to physically harm a police officer, special police officer, state or federal law enforcement officer, firefighter, officer or employee of the department of correction, officer or employee of a sheriff's department, officer or employee of a jail or officer or employee of a house of correction in the performance of the officer’s duties, shall be punished by imprisonment in a state prison for no less than 25 years and up to any term of years.
