An Act relative to the certification of resident care assistants.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Chapter 111 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 71C the following section:-

Section 71D: Nurse Aide Training

Nurses aides or Resident Care Assistants that were hired during the public health emergency established on March 11, 2020 shall forego the requirement of completing the state approved Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training program if they have met one of the following criteria:

(1) The nurse aide or Resident Care Assistant successfully completed an online asynchronous CNA training program and competency assessment; or

(2) The nurse aide or Resident Care Assistant completed a minimum of 80 hours of nurse aide or supervised practical nurse aide training, on-the-job training or regular in-service nurse aide education during the COVID-19 public health emergency under the supervision of a licensed or registered nurse.

The nurse aides shall be required to successfully pass the state CNA certification exam to be deemed a certified nurse aide.
