An Act relative to court officers injured on duty.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. The last paragraph of section 58 of chapter 30 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following sentence:-

All amounts payable under this paragraph shall be paid at the same times and in the same manner as, and for all purposes shall be deemed to be, the regular compensation of such court officer.

SECTION 2. Said section 58 of said chapter 30, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by adding the following paragraph:-

A person who intentionally or negligently injures a court officer who has been granted a leave without loss of pay as a result of the injury and who is paid in accordance with this section shall be liable in tort to the commonwealth paying such compensation for all costs incurred by the commonwealth in replacing the injured court officer that are in excess of the amount of compensation so paid.
