An Act relative to remedial course vouchers for students impacted by COVID-19.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. The department of higher education shall provide all currently enrolled public school students with a voucher for the cost of one year of remedial courses at a state or community college listed in section 5 of chapter 15A or vocational-technical education school defined in chapter 74. For the purposes of this section, “remedial course” shall mean an entry-level college course designed to bring students to an academic level of performance needed to succeed in college and the workforce, including, but not limited to, subjects on math, reading, writing, vocational skills, career readiness, and personal finance. Remedial courses shall not carry academic credits.

SECTION 2. The department shall develop and implement a voucher distribution plan in accordance with this act within six months of its passage and subject to appropriation.
