An Act to promote asset building for low income residents.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 18 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2018 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding the following section:-

Section 40. Notwithstanding any general law or special law or regulation to the contrary, the department of transitional assistance shall not employ the use of an assets test to determine an assistance unit’s financial eligibility for cash assistance under transitional aid to families with dependent children. Financial eligibility for cash assistance shall be based solely on an income test under 106 CMR 704.210 or other relevant regulation promulgated by the department.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
