An Act relative to the management of the several clerks of court.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 221 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2018 Official Edition, is hereby

amended by striking out section 4 and inserting in place thereof the following new section:-

"Section 4. The clerks of court for the counties of Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Essex, Franklin, Hampden,

Hampshire, Middlesex, Norfolk, Plymouth, and Worcester shall appoint, and may remove, first assistant

clerks for said counties. First assistant clerks of courts, except in Suffolk county, shall act as assistant

clerks of the supreme judicial court, the superior court department, and the county commissioners.

The justices of the supreme judicial court shall appoint for a term of three years from the date of their

appointment, and may remove, the first assistant clerk of the supreme judicial court."

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
