An Act relative to non-membership service in public safety.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, a uniformed member of a paid fire department or a uniformed member of a police department who is not a member of a retirement system under chapter 32 of the general laws shall be exempt from section 2 of chapter 415 of the acts of 1987 but shall not continue to serve past the age of 72.

SECTION 2. This act shall not take effect until it has been adopted by a vote of the local legislative body. 

“Legislative body” shall mean, in the case of a city, the city council in accordance with its charter, and in the case of a town, the town meeting.
