An Act expediting the diagnosis and treatment of certain infections.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Chapter 111 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after section 121B the following section:-

Section 121C. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the department, in consultation with the board of registration in medicine, shall promulgate regulations authorizing a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or certified nurse midwife who is authorized under chapter 94C to prescribe and dispense prescription drugs and who diagnoses sexually transmitted infections or diseases in individual patients, to prescribe and dispense such prescription drugs to a patient's sexual partners for the presumptive treatment of sexually transmitted infections or diseases without an examination of the patient's sexual partners, where the department determines such a standard of treatment is medically safe and appropriate.
