An Act relative to recognizing cheerleading as a sport.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

Chapter 71 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after section 47 the following section:-

Section 47A. (a) Every school district in the commonwealth shall, directly or through an authorized representative, in consultation with the department, develop guidelines, procedures and safety standards for the purpose of classifying cheerleading as a sport and providing for student participation in cheerleading.

(b) The school district or its authorized representative shall require any coach of cheerleading to receive training specific to the sport of cheerleading and the safety of cheerleaders.

(c) The requirements of this section shall be in addition to any requirements set forth in section 47 or any other applicable provision of this chapter.
