An Act establishing an appointed town clerk in the town of Rutland.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, there shall be established in the Town of Rutland the office of appointed town clerk. The select board of the town shall appoint and may remove the town clerk, and the town clerk shall serve at the pleasure of the select board. The town clerk shall have all the powers and duties and be subject to the liabilities and penalties imposed by law on town clerks.

SECTION 2. The change in manner of selection of the town clerk described in section 1 of this act shall take effect upon the retirement of the town clerk holding office on May 6, 2023 annual town meeting, or her sooner vacating of office, at which time the elected town clerk position shall be abolished and appointments to the position of town clerk shall be made in accordance with section 1.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
