An Act authorizing the city of Somerville to appoint an alternate member to the licensing commission.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Chapter 410 of the acts of 2018 is hereby amended by striking out section 3 and inserting in place thereof the following section:-

SECTION 3. Notwithstanding section 4 of chapter 138 of the General Laws or any other general or special law to the contrary, the licensing commission of the city of Somerville established in section 1 of chapter 191 of the acts of 1923 shall consist of 3 persons and 1 alternate member, each of whom shall be appointed by the mayor, subject to confirmation by the city council, without regard to political affiliation. The alternate member shall sit on the various cases where the alternate may fulfill the obligations of any member incapacitated by conflict of interest, inability to act or absence. For the purposes of deliberations, the alternate may participate in any discussion on any matters before the commission regardless of whether the alternate will be designated to vote on the particular matter.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
