An Act relative to retired Quincy firefighter Kevin Bythrow.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. (a) Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, and to promote the public good, the city of Quincy retirement board shall retire Kevin Bythrow, who as a result of toxic exposures sustained while in the performance of his duties for the city of Quincy fire department, is totally and permanently incapacitated. The annual amount of pension payable to Kevin Bythrow shall be in accordance with the provisions of section 7 of chapter 32 of the General Laws. Such retirement shall be effective and retroactive as of July 31, 2023.

(b) The provisions of section 100B of chapter 41 of the General Laws shall apply to Kevin Bythrow relative to his indemnification by the city of Quincy for any hospital, medical and related expenses that are not covered by his private health insurance.

(c) Upon the death of Kevin Bythrow, if due to Parkinson's disease, his surviving spouse shall receive an accidental death benefit pursuant to section 9 of chapter 32 of the General Laws. If Kevin Bythrow dies as a result of some other cause, his surviving spouse shall receive a death benefit in accordance with Option (c) of subdivision (2) of section 12 of said chapter 32.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
