SECTION 1. Notwithstanding chapter 32 of the General Laws or section 2 of chapter 415 of the acts of 1987 or any other general or special law to the contrary, police officers of the Town of Milford Police Department who would be subject to mandatory retirement on the last day of the month in which they turn 65 years old, upon retirement, may continue to serve as special police officers until the age of 70, for the purpose of performing police details or any police duties arising therefrom or during the course of police detail work, regardless of whether or not related to the detail work, provided that the employee is mentally and physically fit and capable of performing the duties of the office. No further deductions from compensation shall be made under said chapter 32 subsequent to the employee reaching the age of 65. The Town may, at the employee’s own expense, before service as a special police officer, require that the employee be examined by an impartial physician designated by the Town to determine such capability.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
