The committee on Senate Rules to whom was referred the Senate Bill establishing appointed positions of district clerk and district treasurer for the Raynham center water district (Senate, No. 1320) reports, that the matter be placed in the Orders of the Day for the next session with an amendment striking out all after the enacting clause and inserting in place thererof the text of Senate document numbered S2857.

An Act establishing appointed positions of district clerk and district treasurer for the Raynham center water district.

 

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
 

SECTION 1. Section 9 of chapter 222 of the acts of 1947 is hereby amended by striking out the fourth sentence, as appearing in section 1 of chapter 863 of the acts of 1977, and inserting in place thereof the following 2 sentences:- The board of water commissioners shall appoint a district clerk and a district treasurer, who may be the same person and who need not be residents of the district. The clerk and treasurer shall serve for a term of 3 years and may be reappointed by the commissioners to additional terms.

SECTION 2. This act shall not affect the existing terms of the district clerk and district treasurer elected before the effective date of this act. Upon the expiration of the existing terms of the elected district clerk and district treasurer, the board of water commissioners shall appoint the successors to those positions pursuant to section 1.
