An Act relative to the modernization of insurance stamps.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
Section 34B of chapter 90 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2022 Official Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the second paragraph the following paragraph:-
The commissioner shall accept a certificate without a physical or electronic insurance stamp from the company that issued the motor vehicle liability policy if the person applying for registration of a motor vehicle or the company issuing the policy provides proof of insurance, including an insurance card or the information thereon by which a policy can be verified. A company authorized to issue or deliver a motor vehicle liability policy in the commonwealth shall have an electronic system by which the commissioner can verify an applicant’s insurance status. The commissioner shall promulgate regulations, pursuant to chapter 30A, which shall include the minimum standards for a company’s electronic insurance verification system.
