An Act authorizing the raising the maximum retirement age of special police officers in the town of Kingston to 70 years old.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. The Board of Selectmen for the Town of Kingston, following the recommendation of the Chief of Police, annually may appoint individuals, who have served as police officers and who are currently certified by Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Commission, to serve as special police officers of the police department of the Town of Kingston for the purpose of performing traffic details.
SECTION 2. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the maximum age for a special police officer appointed in the Town of Kingston shall be 70 yers of age, and said officers may continue serving in their positions until they reach seventy (70) years of age, the date of their retirement, resignation, or non-reappointment, whichever occurs first.
SECTION 3. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the non-reappointment of special police officers in the Town of Kingston shall be discretionary with the Board of Selectmen, which decision may be for any, or for no reason at all provided that said reason is not otherwise unlawful.
SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
