Comerford that provisions be made for an investigation and study by a special commission (including members of the General Court) to review and study of the state house art collection; (accompanied by resolve, Senate, No. 2329) of Julian Cyr that provisions be made for an investigation and study by a special commission (including members of the General Court) on artistic representation in the People’s House; and (accompanied by resolve, Senate, No. 2336) of Jacob R. Oliveira that provisions be made for an investigation and study by a special commission (including members of the General Court) to establish a State House restoration and management commission, report the accompanying resolve (Senate, No. 2740).

Resolve establishing a State House restoration and management commission.

 

Resolved, Chapter 6 of the General Laws is hereby amended in Section 20 by adding the following new subsection:-

(i) The commission and curator shall formulate and develop a master plan and program to restore and preserve the state house and surrounding grounds and review the state house art collection to identify any racially or culturally insensitive images or content that should be considered for removal; identify unused wall or floor space in the state house that could be utilized to host diverse images and art from underrepresented communities and to honor important contributions to the commonwealth made by individuals and groups throughout history; and to solicit the commission of art, murals, statutes, plaques, or artistic representation within and surrounding the state house that reflects the diversity of the commonwealth’s residents and history.
