Secure Communities

[Sponsors] Ms. Poirier of North Attleboro moves to further amend amendment 433 to H 3400 by striking the amendment in its entirety and inserting in place thereof the following amendment.

Ms. Poirier of North Attleboro, Ms. O’Connell of Taunton, Mr. Lombardo of Billerica, Mr. Fattman of Sutton, Mr. Jones of North Reading, Mr. Hill of Ipswich, Mr. Ross of Attleboro, Mr. Kuros of Uxbridge, Mr. Ferguson of Holden, Mr. Adams of Andover, Mr. Levy of Marlborough, Ms. Gifford of Wareham, Mr. Bastien of Gardner, Mr. Webster of Pembroke, Mr. Smola of Palmer and Mr. Vieira of Falmouth move to amend the bill by inserting the following section:-

SECTION.  Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, the governor shall designate an agency to act as the designated state identification bureau which shall enter into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on or before October 1, 2011, on the statewide activation and implementation of the Secure Communities strategy, as authorized by the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) (8 USC §1105; 8 USC §1226(c); 8 USC §1226(d); 8 USC §1226(e); 8 USC §1227(a) (2); and 8 USC §1228); and FY 2008 DHS Appropriations Act (Pub. L. No. 110-161, 121 Stat. 1844, 2365 (2007)).
