Teaching Community Health Centers

[Sponsors] Representatives Torrisi of North Andover, O’Day of West Boylston, Devers of Lawrence, and Adams of Andover move to amend the bill in section 2, in item 4000-0500, in line 12, by inserting after “herein” the following:

“provided further, that teaching community health centers with a residency program in primary care or family medicine shall receive a special grant of no less than $500,000 for each of the commonwealth’s four qualified teaching health centers.  Such centers shall maintain their teaching accreditation as either an independent teaching community health center or as a teaching community health center accredited through affiliation with a commonwealth-funded medical school or licensed as part of a teaching hospital. This payment will be financed with funding allocated and approved in the March 1, 2010 amendment to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ section 1115 Demonstration waiver, if necessary to achieve maximum federal financial participation.  Said payments to eligible teaching community health centers shall be made on or before April 15, 2011.”
