Amendment Regarding Homelessness Prevention
Representatives Reinstein of Revere, Kocot of Northampton, Khan of Newton, Toomey of Cambridge, Ferrante of Gloucester, Provost of Somerville, Chan of Quincy, Calter of Kingston, Ayers of Quincy, Fallon of Malden and Smith of Everett move to amend the bill in section 2, in item 7004-9316, in line 46 by inserting after “assistance in obtaining housing subsidies and locating alternative housing that is safe and affordable for those families” the following: “provided further, that not less than $3,760,000 shall be administered by community action agencies, as defined in section 24 of the Chapter 23B of the Massachusetts General Laws, to support the delivery of community-based prevention services that shall include housing search services, stabilization services, landlord/tenant mediation, legal assistance to prevent eviction, and tracking to ensure that families remain housed for a minimum of 12 months, provided further that families served shall include families that have not yet sought eligibility determination for HomeBASE services and families at risk of homelessness but do not yet meet eligibility criteria for HomeBASE services and are referred to community action agencies by regional housing nonprofits or other nonprofit or service organizations or government entities.”.
