Allow municipalities to expend injury leave benefits without appropriation

Representatives Levy of Marlborough, DiNatale of Fitchburg, Smola of Palmer and Diehl of Whitman move to amend the bill by adding the following section:

SECTION  XXX.  Section 53 of Chapter 44 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2010 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding, after clause (3), the following new clause:—

(4) sums recovered under the terms of an insurance policy covering public safety injured-on-duty claims under section 111F of chapter 44, may be used by the injured employee’s respective department without specific appropriation, provided those sums shall be used only for the purpose of covering costs associated with the injured employee’s absence, including, but not limited to, temporary staffing, replacement staffing, overtime and medical expenses.
