Fisheries Research

Representatives Cabral of New Bedford, Ferrante of Gloucester, Koczera of New Bedford, Straus of Mattapoisett, Markey of Dartmouth, Gobi of Spencer, Beaton of Shrewsbury, Cariddi of North Adams, Kocot of Northampton, Gifford of Wareham, Cantwell of Marshfield, Schmid of Westport, Chan of Quincy, Nyman of Hanover, Parisella of Beverly, Keefe of Worcester, Hunt of Sandwich and Ferguson of Holden move to amend the bill in section 2, in item 2330-0100, in line 14, by inserting after word “program” the following:

 

“; provided further that not less than $1,250,000 be expended for a program of collaborative research by the Division of Marine Fisheries through the Marine Fisheries Institute in collaboration with the School for Marine Science and Technology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth that applies innovative technology to assess the biomass of groundfish, including cod and yellowtail, in the region managed by the New England Fishery Management Council, not less than $250,000 of which shall be appropriated to the School for Marine Science and Technology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth to develop a Sonar research proposal in conjunction with the Sonar Project,”; and in said item by striking out the figures “$4,787,357” and inserting in place thereof the figures “6,037,357”.
