Issuance of vehicle inspection station licenses for new car dealerships

Mr. Markey of Dartmouth moves to amend the bill moves that the bill be amended in section XX by adding the following section: “Notwithstanding any other law or regulation, the Department of Transportation and Registrar of Motor Vehicles shall issue a vehicle inspection station license, pursuant to M.G.L. chapter 90 sections  7A  and 7W  , if requested, to any ‘new car’ dealership which has invested $2,500,000 or more in a new facility or a rehabilitation of an existing facility, if such ‘new car’ dealership is properly equipped to conduct such inspections, regardless of the ‘saturation’ of vehicle inspection station licenses within the locale.” 

For purposes of this section “new car” dealership is a car dealer who sells new cars under a manufacturer’s name.
