CPR in Schools

Representatives Lawn of Watertown, Basile of Boston, Ferguson of Holden, Smizik of Brookline, Dooley of Norfolk, Hecht of Watertown, Madden of Nantucket, D'Emilia of Bridgewater, Honan of Boston, Farley-Bouvier of Pittsfield, McMurtry of Dedham, Khan of Newton, Timilty of Milton, Garballey of Arlington and Kafka of Stoughton move to amend the bill in section 2, in item 7027-0019, by striking out the figure "1,000,000" and inserting in place thereof the figure "1,350,000" and by inserting at the end thereof the following language: For grants or no less than $350,000 to provide enrolled students’ instruction in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). The instruction must be based on an instructional program established by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross or another program that is approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and is nationally recognized and uses the most current national evidence−based Emergency Cardiovascular Care guidelines and incorporates psychomotor skills development into the instruction; provided further, that all grant applications submitted to and approved by the department of elementary and secondary education shall include a detailed line item budget specifying how the funds shall be allocated and expended based on a policy that requires all students to instructed on CPR as a graduation requirement.
