Amendment #953 to H4000

Probation Department to Study Drunk Driving Technology

Mr. Chan of Quincy moves to amend the bill by adding the following new section:-

“SECTION XX. (a) The Massachusetts Department of Probation shall conduct a study to determine the cost and usefulness of technology that continuously and remotely monitors an individual’s alcohol level in order to deter individuals on parole for drunk driving convictions in the Commonwealth. As part of the study, the Department of Probation should review how the technology is used in other areas of the country in parole and probation programs, as an alternative to jail for non-violent offenders, to monitor drunk driving offenders, and for low risk domestic violence offenders.

(b) The final study and recommendations shall be reported to the Joint Committee on Transportation, Joint Committee on Public Safety and the House and Senate Committees on Ways and Means by no later than March 1, 2015.”
