Exemption from Membership Dues for Political Purposes

Mr. Frost of Auburn moves to amend the bill by inserting at the end thereof the following new section:-

“SECTION XX. Section 3 of chapter 150A of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2012 Official Edition, is hereby amended by adding at the end thereof the following new paragraph:-

Any organization, association, labor union, or other entity whose primary focus is not political that collects membership dues and fees and uses a percentage of its operational budget for political purposes must provide to members a breakdown of what percentage of said operational budget was used for political activities. Such organization, association, labor union, or other entity shall give members an opportunity to reduce membership dues by a percentage equivalent to the percentage of the operational budget that was used for political purposes upon renewal of the membership or payment of the next year’s fees, whichever occurs first.”
