Different Language - Techincal Changes

Mr. Chan of Quincy moves to amend the bill in section 6 in line 47 after the words “authority” the following new sentence:- The department shall provide the members cultural competency training and training on the challenges tenants who do not speak English.”

moves to further amend the bill in section 8 in line 86 by including after the word “programing;” the following words “(x) ability to outreach, respond and communicate with non-English speaking tenants and the quality of English for Speaker of other Languages classes, if its provided;”

moves to further amend the bill in section 8 in line 86 by striking out the word “(x)” and replacing it with ‘”(xi)”.

moves to further amend the bill in section 13 in line 194 after the words "residents." the following new sentence:- "The survey shall be conducted in languages which reflect the tenants in residing in the housing authorities and the survey respondents shall respond in their native language; provided further that the department shall include, but is not limited to, the following languages , Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese (both classical and traditional), Vietnamese, Mon Khmer Cambodian, Russian, French Creole, Italian, German, Polish and Arabic.

moves to further amend the bill in section 13 in line 383 by inserting after the words “assistance” the followings words “native language assistance”.

moves to further amend the bill in section in line 411 after the words “hearing,” the following words:- “which shall include an explanation of how non-English speakers were able to receive and comment on the annual report.”
